Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) has a Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science (SAKURA Exchange Program in Science) program. This program is a program to increase the exchange between youth in Asia and Japan that will have an important role in the development of science and technology. The objective of the program is to increase the interest of Asian youth towards the excellence of Japanese science and technology through collaboration between the academia-government industry by facilitating short-term visits of selected Asian youth to Japan.

In 2017, Faculty of Agricultural Technology Universitas Brawijaya in cooperation with International Education Affairs Faculty of Engineering University of Miyazaki, under the coordination of Prof. Keisuke Murakami managed to get for three years from 2017 until 2019. The form of activities in this program is to provide opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students to conduct a visit in Japan to obtain information related to the latest developments in science and technology in Japan.

This year, the SAKURA Exchange Program in Science will take place from 29 October to 7 November 2017 in Tokyo and Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. The theme of the activity is Sustainable utilization of watershed environment and its management (Sustainable use of river basin (DAS) and its management). Currently, college graduates must have the ability to obtain optimal solutions in inconsistent situations from a multilateral point of view. In this program, participants learn the proper techniques of river basin management from the standpoint of agriculture and engineering. Participants have training to understand watershed management and water resources management from a hydrological circulation point of view.

This activity will be followed by 5 students S1 and 5 S2 students, and a coordinator, namely Dr. Eng Akhmad Adi Sulianto. The entourage will carry out the visit for ten (10) days. Participants will attend public lectures, laboratory visits, and direct visits to research sites related to good watershed environmental conservation, harmonious conditions between the natural environment, watershed utilization and disaster prevention, for sustainable development.
